Sitting at a height of 2925 m, Triund is a perfect camping place where you can spend the night under the stars. It is 16-17 km from Dharamshala but trekking towards it doesn’t make it seem like so much. The beautiful place lies just below the snow line and the white sparkling mountains above instantly rejuvenates you.

Triund Trekking

* It took us 7-8 hours to finally reach Triund *

We went trekking from Mcleodganj to Triund where it had rained the previous night. It took us 7-8 hours to finally reach there. The way through the deodar forests and other geography beauty kept us alive throughout. While marching we came across the local gaddis with their animal herd carrying the load and we had to step aside to give them the way on the narrow path. Some food stuff was available at tea shops installed every 2 km but it was all overpriced and we definitely regretted not carrying enough with us. So we pooled in money and bought sufficient water and chips to keep us going.

We reached there just before sunset and nothing in this world seemed more worthy than that view. The shades of yellow and orange spreading through the horizons painting a canvas were awe inspiring. I sat there with my eyes fixed at the beauty and didn’t realize I was the only one left there by the time it started getting dark.

Camping under the million stars

It was yet another experience to have once in your lifetime which is best had in Triund, it been a little chilly in September. We did not sleep the entire night as we couldn’t afford to lose a single moment in this God-given place. The camps, a bonfire and a group of friends to reminisce the magnificence; and you’ll have one of the most memorable nights of your life.

* A bonfire and a group of friends to reminisce the moment *

It was a rather freezing night as compared to the day and it was difficult to stay out of sleeping bags though I managed to stargaze for a while lying on the wet grass. There was this moment in the night when we were looking down at the city lights and wondering why they seemed beautiful now when they only looked crowded when we were there.

Himalayan Sunrise

The sunrise was another marvelous view standing there among the Himalayas and the few of us who woke up early were able to save it in them forever. We few went further away from the camps and sat at a really remote corner just near the drop of the valley with only music playing in the silence. We meditated with the tunes.

“With the Sun tearing apart the horizons to reach us, its rays purifying our souls.

We sat there staring into nothingness and yet it was the moment

when I was able to actually see the meaning of my life.”

That music still echoes in my ears and reminds me of the life-changing experience. I can recall all of it as if it happened only yesterday. Sitting there I realized what ‘eternal bliss’ actually meant all this time.  Our tribe was awake when we went back to the camps, so we packed our stuff and it was time to leave. We had warm tea from the shack there just before leaving.

Retiring Back

Trekking downwards to our hotel at Mcleodganj was less tiring than the upwards journey.

We reached back to our hotel but the memories of the beautiful valleys still lingered in my head. Triund has been a life-changing experience for me. It will be Forever cherished!

Triund is a perfect retreat for the cluttered mind.

Come here and take peace with you!
